V Nothampton, League Two, 3pm

It was two days before my 16th Birthday and I decided to travel to the West Country just to get another ground visit under my belt. At the time of the game Yeovil were sitting proudly at the top of League 2 with Northampton languishing in the lower reaches. Despite this fact I was still looking forward to the game although not being too expectant!

It was an early start from Sixfields and everybody on the coach seemed to be bleary eyed on a cold October morning. As the bus pulled away, I took one last look at my home stadium as I knew it would be a long day and a long time before I saw it again that night.

The journey was a bit of a bore but what else can you expect to do but read a magazine or listen to a personal stereo in such a confined space? We pulled up right outside the away stand at about 2pm, an hour before kick off. During this time I purchased a programme and browsed at that for pretty much the best part of an hour.

I was impressed with everything about the stadium, it was a tidy little place for a team that was only in it's second season of league football. The stewards seemed to be pretty lenient, at one point I saw a half eaten burger being flung into the goal but this did not provoke a reaction from the men in yellow coats, just a few laughs from the men in claret shirts.

3pm came around and the game got underway bang on time. Early Yeovil pressure culminated in the opening goal being scored by the lanky striker Phil Jevons. 1-0 it stayed until late in the second half, Northampton's French striker Eric Sabin levelled things up at 1-1 with a close range header. That's how the game stayed but Cobblers were unlucky not to pick up 3 points in my estimation of the game, we had the ball in the net again but this effort was ruled out as no goal. Chants of 'top of the league, your having a laugh' could be heard from the 500 or so fans we took to Somerset as the game drew to a close.

I was happy with a draw but still wondered if we should have left winners. I boarded the coach and we got away quite easily.

Overall, it was a good weekend for me and a good last football match to watch as a 15 year old.
