Huish Park, Yeovil Town
Saturday 8th February 2003
V Kettering Town, Conference League, 3pm
By Peter Short

I've heard many Yeovil fans boasting at how great their ground was now that a great deal of money had been spent on it. And it looks like I'll have to agree with them. The pitch was actually green! And considering it was February it was a greeny shade of green too!

Either side of the pitch are two brilliant stands which seem packed when standing in the away end. And then there's the home terrace behind the goal. The amount of noise generated from there is almost scary! And with both stands making a bit of a noise (I say noise, they clapped at the right bits!), you have to give it 10 out of 10 for atmosphere.

We only took 100 fans to Yeovil but I can imagine a big match (ie the Direonians match in 2001) would be a thriller. A capacity crowd would wow any player! And a little pointer. Notice the 2 scoreboards, one on each stand roof. It took us about half an hour to realise they were there.

As for the facilities...I didn't get to see the away tea bar because some fool at the club thought only 30 fans would bother going to Yeovil and therefore it wasn't opened. Yeovil have obviously been planning league football for years now as in the home tea bar they've integrated those horrible plastic cups of coffee you get at league grounds and all they serve is pies and other such items.  But I was so sickened by Kettering's performance on the day I didn't really want to eat owt. Toilets weren't anything special. But then again are they ever?

Pubs...don't go into any pubs that are actually in Yeovil. That's what we were told anyway. Not that I'm saying Yeovil fans are dangerous, but we took that advice and stopped off in a nearby town called Sherbourne. It's just on the Somerset/Dorset border and we found a nice little pub called the King's Arms. It has conditioned ales and a well placed tele for the football. Parking as far as I know is quite good. I came on a coach and I was dropped off
right outside the away end. Remember, Yeovil have an average support of over 4000! so unless you want to sit in you're car seat for hours on end...

my overall rating of the ground: 4/5 (good)
