Edgeley Park - Stockport County

Vs Hull City, League One, 3pm
By James Chestney

I was quite looking forward to this trip as it was the Tigers first away trip of 2005 and the reversed game at the KC was pretty good and the tigers where second and Stockport bottom so I thought we had a chance of winning.

Been a bank holiday the journey was quite good I set off with my uncle at about 11am from Hull and soon got on the M62. Peaceful journey up to Birch Services for the loo and to buy paper. After our stop we set off for the dreaded M60 but it was really quiet and we arrived in Stockport at 1.20pm. We decide to drive to the ground to find the route form where we where going to getaway easily after the game and we soon found a suitable spot.

With it been a bank holiday everything was closed but as we walked it the town centre we found a chippy with £1.00 for a large chips BARGAIN. The only problem was the 20 man queue but we were early. As we walked back towards the ground had a natter with some of the 2,000 travelling tigers. If you are a plane spotter buy a season ticket for here as I watched 30 planes go past.

On seeing the ground it looked a bit of a dump but as you work your way around the away stand you pass a giant new stand which looked rather impressive. I took a nosey In the shop but left empty handed after seeing not a lot of Stockport county memorabilia but more of the Sale shark rugby union shirts.

The game was great the tigers won 3-1 and went top after Luton failed to win at Peterborough. The stewards where helpful directing us to our stand with great pleasure. I did not sample the pies but I tried a sausage roll which was one of the nicest all season home and away. Been an older stand I was impressed by the toilets really clean and at the back of the stand so you don’t have to go out and get wet when it rains. As always the tigers following was great and never shut up from start to finish

Getting away from the ground was as easy as getting in but it was raining this time, so we got wet on the way back to the car.

I really enjoyed my day at Edgeley Park and would recommend it to any away spectator but I bet it’s nicer when it’s not cold and raining.
